BACKGROUND
Many studies indicate that by 2050, it will rise by an additional two billion population, bringing the total number of humans on Earth to close to 10 billion. Because of the burden this rapid population expansion will place on our planet’s resources, particularly food supplies, it could have disastrous effects. Food security is impacted by a variety of factors, including population expansion, dietary changes, and methods of food production.
On the one hand, people are getting richer and consuming more, especially in wealthy nations. On the other hand, people are choosing food that uses more resources and has a negative impact on the environment. However, resources become scarcer as demand rises. Food production had to be scaled up to keep up with the rising demand, and as a result, it has come dangerously close to going over the planet’s carrying capacity. To meet that demand, the agricultural sector of today struggles to produce enough food.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 2023 reported important causes of severe food insecurity. Acute food insecurity has reached new highs due to extreme meteorological conditions, including droughts and floods, the commencement of the war in Ukraine, the emergence of other conflicts, and the spread of other conflicts.
Nearly a million people—almost twice as many as in 2021—face the immediate prospect of famine as 2022 draws to a close. Nearly one in five of the 222 million individuals who experience high acute food insecurity struggle to get enough food to get by each day. Many more problems face the sustainable of Agriculture worldwide.
This conference is expected to be a means of exchanging knowledge as well as a means of building networking to solve the global problems that we are currently facing.
